i have buttons set to on but my home screen is always unlocked

I have all my security buttons set to on my iPhone 12. But when side button it off then on again the Home Screen just needs a swipe up not code. Is it because it recognizes my face?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

if you are using Face ID and in Settings > Face ID & Passcode the switch is turned on for 'iPhone Unlock' then yes, all that would be required is a swipe up after Face ID recognizes you. If you want to use a passcode to unlock your iPhone then turn off that switch.
