"On My iPad" storage shows empty but taking up nearly 7 GB?

I recently setup my iPad as new, and when looking to free up some storage, I see that “On My iPad” is taking up 6.75GB, however there’s nothing saved “on my iPad.” When I go to the Files app and choose the “On My iPad” option, it’s empty.

Any ideas why this is happening and how to free up that space?

My iPad was already running iOS 14 when I set it up as new and manually added back the apps I wanted. Not sure this solution applies to me.

My issue is not with “other” storage, it’s with “on my iPad.”
