That is now listed as an HP Printer. for those of you who missed the recent dust-up over hp drivers, here is the essence:
------------------------------------------
From sources familiar with the matter, HP Inc asked Apple to revoke its printer driver code-signing certificates. It appears this request backfired as it left users unable to print. An HP Inc spokesperson said on Friday night:
We unintentionally revoked credentials on some older versions of Mac drivers. This caused a temporary disruption for those customers and we are working with Apple to restore the drivers. In the meantime, we recommend users experiencing this problem to uninstall the HP driver and use the native AirPrint driver to print to their printer.
HP supplied a new driver on Friday to fix the issue:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg
However, that "fix" is producing this error for some users:
"Matterhorn.framework" will damage your computer…
If you're seeing that, try this fix. Go to System Preferences, select Printers and Scanners. Select your printer from the list then delete (-) it. Then add (+) your printer back and select the generic driver to use.
Update: HP Printer Software 5.1 should now be becoming available through Software Update to fix this issue.
(2220 UTC 23 October 2020)
Open >System Preferences>Software Update (Command R will reload and do a fresh check)
If you don't see it there, Apple now has it posted as a separate, manual download.
in the
system preferences > printers & scanners ...
delete your old Printer queues.
copy and paste this link to the browser URL bar:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg
when complete, double click on the download and follow directions to install.
Then download THIS:
https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US
Then use System Preferences > Printers & scanners...
and Add a printer, which will use the newly downloaded software.
Apple haven't offered any updates regarding printers or anything for their latest Macbook Pro running on Catalina. Beginning to think it may have been better running on order supported existing software.
Mistakes were made. There is more than enough blame to go around, with some left over.
If you want your Printer to print, read and follow the suggestions above.
If you need additional help, use the "Contact support" link at the top of every forum web page.
Apple support say it isn't their problem, try contacting HP in this case for updates. Done that, my printer isn't supported. Its unreasonable to have to buy another modern full colour laser printer/scanner.
Whats on my mind. Sorry but listening to Grant and deleting the printer out of the printers in system preferences has deleted any chance of downloading the latest printer(s) The download failed to load after updating / reading files, download unsuccessful, consult printer providers for unavailable drivers. Even Grant would at this point be fed up.
Download failed then installation failed. If only I could live a happy life forever with my printer having no further issues.
which of the two downloads failed, and what was the error message?
Validating packages, writing files, installation failed. No error messages.
After you have deleted your Printer, Restart your Mac. This will release any files that were in use from the previous Printer Queue.
Then launch the Installer again, and try to install again.
