I am migrating two MacBook Pro’s. Both running same latest software. They will only connect via WiFi and not via usb-c bridge. Transfer limit 20mb/s. Going to take 22hrs.
I have tried to disable WiFi and Set Service Order to put thunderbolt at top. Nothing seems to be working.

macOS chooses the connection specified in its Network Preferences Service Order: Change the order of the network ports your Mac uses - Apple Support. Rather than adjust it though, if you want to prevent the transfer from using Wi-Fi, then simply turn off Wi-Fi.

what should you need to do for it to use usb - c on migration. Surely it should be automatic? It’s obviously the best method not a “pro-tip”

I don't know what a “pro-tip” is. The instructions I posted are Apple support documents. If they don't work for you then Contact Apple Support for assistance.
22 hours is not at all unusual to completely transfer the contents of one Mac to another. A wired connection might not be much faster.
OK thanks. This actually worked and took a lot less than 22 hours, I don't know whether it was the thunderbolt Wi-Fi in the end but it was definitely in half the time. I had followed the steps from your first suggestions, so if anyone else reading this you can follow those two and it would likely work.
