Upgrade MacBookPro mid-2010 to High Sierra

I am trying to upgrade from 10.12.6 to high sierra 10.13 on my MacBookPro Mid-2010. Apple says it will discontinue support for 10.12 in December. OK OK, But today (Nov.1) the App Store shows this message:

"This copy of the Install macOS High Sierra.app application is damaged, and cannot be used to install macOS."

Why? Yes, I've waited a long time but until now I need to load up High Sierra as it is the last level that will run on my hardware. Thanks, GG

That message actually means the App Store has detected a copy of Install macOS High Sierra.app

in your Applications folder. Locate it, move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Connect your mac to your router via cable, restart your mac go back to the App Store High Sierra

page, it will now say Get or Download instead of Open.

Do not use the mac while it is downloading or any other devices that share the same internet

connection.

Apple stopped supporting macOS Sierra in 2019, Apple will stop supporting macOS High Sierra

when they release macOS Big Sur which should be soon.

You do not get the High Sierra download from the Updates page in the App Store.

As your first post gave you the error message I thought you had already accessed

the High Sierra download page.

Open Safari and click on the link below, do not use Firefox.

How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

Go to Section 4 and click on Get macOS High Sierra, this will

redirect you to the App Store High Sierra download page,

it should say Get or Download.

This is the full installer version of High Sierra and will install macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

this is all you need, there is no 10.13 full installer version available. Apple

pulls the older full installer versions from the App Store when a newer full installer

version is released.

Why have you disconnected the keyboard and monitor there is no reason too do this.

Thanks.

All steps have been followed. Your advice was good. In addition have disconnected all externals (keyboard, monitor) But when I open App Store (ver.2.2.1, last mod 6/24/16) and go to High Sierra there are only 3 updates (iTunes, safari, security) but no upgrade to High Sierra. Am I stumbling in the AppStore? Could there be another source for the 10.13. package?

Maybe Apple is just not interested.
