Display uneven on the bottom of the screen

The display got darker and uneven on the bottom of the screen. Do I need to have the screen replaced? It's 2016 MacBook Pro.

Apple has a 4-year special repair program for the 2016 MacBook Pro models for the display backlight going out.

It sounds like this is what's happening to you.

It's absolutely vital though that you immediately contact Apple about this in order to be covered since it's a strict 4-year deadline from the date of purchase.

Whether it's covered, or an out of pocket expense, it would require a screen replacement.

I would contact Apple today and see if they can confirm you are within the 4 years plus if the manufacture date of your particular Mac qualifies...then get a case # showing you contacted them and look into your service options. With Covid and it being hard to get an appointment, if you're still within the deadline today you might be over the deadline by the time you are able to arrange for service in which case it's important to show you contacted Apple while still covered. If you are still covered, make sure to ask that they specifically note this in your case file especially if you anticipate a delay in being able to get service done.
