I've tried to shut down my computer via forced shut down and holding power button. The background is black with a message "Your computer is already shutting down. " This message has been there for 8 hours. Is there another method to shut down my computer. I see the mouse/arrow, but the computer is not responding.

If you press and hold the power button for >10 seconds, it should shut down (hard).
On restart you may choose a startup with Safe mode, and that could take awhile.

Can take upwards of 20-30 minutes or so, with an attempt re-start into Safe mode.
