Time lapse lags when filming?

I'm trying to use time lapse on my iphone 12 and when I start filming the screen lags so things move super slow or in a choppy way very suddenly and it's just dizzying to look at. Filming normal videos seems fine so I'm wondering what the issue is. If anyone could help, thanks!

I FOUND THE FIX!!!

When you hit time lapse hold your finger on the screen until you see AE/AF Lock make sure it shows locked. When you see that then you are good to go and you can place your phone down and record!

First, you open the camera and tap time-lapse to be in time-lapse mode. Then tap the screen to see the yellow box appear. Then hold down on that yellow box until 'AE/AF LOCK' pops up and appears on the top of the screen. After that, you can start filming the time-lapse and it will no longer lag and should work properly. Hope that helps, let me know if you're still confused about anything!

I exchanged my iphone 12 for a new one and found that it happened on the second device too! Since both had it, I talked to Apple support and they said it’s an expected issue, related likely to hardware/software. I wrote something to their iPhone feedback, and yeah I’m hoping they can resolve it in a future update too. A bit disappointing there’s no fix for it right now.

I forgot to add – whenever I film a time lapse propped up against something it starts glitching and lagging only while I'm filming, but if I play the video back it's perfectly fine? So it's just an issue with the filming but like it doesn't actually affect how the time lapse turns out for me. It's still weird though and I definitely would like to get it fixed :|
