Red dot with 1 in it on my Photos icon

How to get rid of the red dot with the "1" in it that is on my Photos icon on my MacBook Pro icon.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

That normally means there is a notification from the app (probably a new memory).

If you don't want to see that - go to settings, notifications, and uncheck badge app icon

It could also mean, that someone has added a new photo or comment to a shared album. Then the dot will vanish, when you view the new entries in the shared album.

Thank you Leoine. This is what it was the last time but this time I could not get the red dot to go away until I turned the notification off as Tony suggested. Thanks again!
