I have an iPadPro. Just updated to OS14.1. How do I get that **** floating ‘notifications’ square off my desk top, or ANY page I have open?

I just pressed and held it, and there is an option listed to Remove Widget. I hit Remove, it gave an "are you sure" warning, and I said yes, and it is gone.

Settings > Home Screen & Dock > Keep Today View on Home Screen = “off”.
Appreciate your suggestion, but It’s still there.
I pressed firmly, nada. (All my other “icon” reacted but it did not. I’m glad to know it’s called a widget, anyway. Thanks for trying to help me.
It is from the Today view, you should be able to deal with that through the instructions here. Add widgets to the iPad Home Screen - Apple Support
That didn’t’t work but somehow I got to a screen where I could turn off “assisted (something). Tah Dah. Thank you all for your efforts . Whew...
