Is there a way to see if you are actually connected to 5G?

Hello,

I've been using the *3001#12345#* code to view my actual cell signal and recently purchased an iPhone 12 Pro to find that this code doesn't show me any 5G info.

I have read that my connection icon will show as 5G even when I'm using 4G due to that smart data manager feature but is there a way to check this with a code like *3001#12345#*?

I have read that by default, the iPhone 12 models will use 4G LTE until network demand (e.g. streaming, etc.) causes the phone to make a faster (e.g. 5G, 5G+, 5Guw connection. That would be dependent upon the carrier 5G signal availability at your location, and the phone would display one of the 5G symbology when actually connected to it.

Any keycodes would be a function of whether your carrier documents, and provides them to you, and would likely be unique based on the carrier's network support of those codes.

Hello VikingOSX,

Thank you for input. The reason I asked is because via the Field Test Mode at *3001#12345#*, I can see the LTE, UMTS, GSM options (https://www.waveform.com/pages/field-test-mode).

However with iPhone 12, I do not see a 5G or NR option (not sure how it should look honestly).

This is why I was wondering if anyone knew a way to find out if the iPhone is truly connected to 5G or not because as you said, iPhone will show 5G if it is available but only use 5G if it's necessary.

I hope this clarifies my query. Thank you for your help.
