How to turn off Auto-brightness?

How do I turn off the auto-brightness/ambient lighting feature? It drives me nuts.

I can’t find a specific setting in Display & Brightness or through Accessibility.

My phone is an iPhone XS, iOS 14.0.1 and I normally have dark mode on if that makes a difference.

Salutations issy9798,

It sounds like you're looking to manage the automatic display adjustments of your iPhone, and we'll be happy to help.

You can find the option to manage auto-brightness by tapping Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

True Tone, which also adjusts based on ambient light, can be managed by tapping Settings > Display & Brightness.

The following page of the iPhone User Guide offers additional information and guidance in regard to your iPhone's display: Adjust the screen brightness and color on iPhone

Take care!

If you are missing that setting, your iOS is seriously corrupted or your screen is not an Apple screen. Restore iOS to factory settings and check again—>Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

Are you the original owner of this phone? Might a previous owner have replaced the screen? I’m almost certain that the screen was replaced with a non-Apple screen, because True Tone is also missing from Display & Brightness in your screen image:
