PowerOn Recycling

Has anyone recycled a Mac using Apples recycle program to get a gift card from Apple?
http://www.apple.com/recycling/computer/

Basically I want to know if they stick with their estimate and give the amount they offer or do they stick it to you once they have the computer in hand.
They are offering:
Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.16 Ghz 15" (T7400) (MA609LL/A)
Estimate provided by PowerON:
$487.62

But do they deliver. I'd hate to find out after they get the computer that they will only pay $300 and then charge me to ship it back or worse yet refuse to ship it back.

2009 MacPro 2x2.26 ATI 4870 6GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.2), 650GB Bootcamp Drive 3x1.5 TB jHFS+

this message is for jcphot - The identical thing happened to me with my macbook pro.. I was quoted $435 for a perfectly good macbook pro. When I recived my quote it was for $75.. They sent me pictures of a dented up macbook pro and also said the audio port was damaged and needs to be replaced?!? Before I sent it in I cheched every port and made sure they all worked flawlessly. Why would I send them a dented and defective macbook pro and say it was in good condition??!?? jcphot - can you send me your pictures? I have a feeling they'll be identical to mine, They use the same ones for every audit.. I have a feeling they repaced my bottom shell with a dented one and swapped out the audio board for a defective one, hoping that I would cave and just take the $75 and then they'd left with a mint condition macbook pro for close to nothing! Not satisfied at all.. How can apple be affiliated with such a terrible service?

Beware: this company is a scam!!!! Before you send anything to them, take photos of your product because they will attempt to sell it back at half price because it is not in the condition you stated it was: and here is the catch, the images they will send are not your product. They pick the phone in the worst condition and call it yours. F 'em...document your phone before your send.

PowerOn is a total scam! Go with Gazelle they will give you a fair market value for all your old Macs, iPhones and iPods. I sent my 3G 8GB iPhone to PowerOn after answering their questions which established that my trade-in value was $60 based on wear and tear. When I sent them the phone they responded back that there were all these scratches (they were minimal) and that the camera didn't work (never asked that in the questions on their site) and told me the value of my phone was $0. I immediately told them to send me my phone back since I knew it was worth more than $0. They immediately responded saying that after further review it was determined that my phone was worth $25. Are you kidding me...you were just playing me to see if I would not go through the hassle of having my phone sent back and when I did they discovered my phone was actually worth something. Really? SCAM!! I then went to Gazelle answered all the questions on their site which determined that my phone was worth $53, but understanding that I would at least get $25 for it. I sent it in and was immediately told upon inspection that it was approved for $53 and a check was being sent to me. Apple should re-evaluate dealing with these scammers! PowerOn is a joke, definintely send your stuff to Gazelle who will give you a fair offer and not play any games!

Power ON estimation was 180 dollars for my 6 months old iphone 4. I send the iphone and they sent me another estimation, which is 50 dollars due to some battery problems.

I have decided to get back my 6 months old iphone, which is still under WARRANTY.

They sent me ANOTHER iphone 4, which is NOT under warranty. They STOLE my 6 month old iphone and sent me back broken iphone 4!!!

I have communicated with KQ, who is consumer trade in specialist, and she openly told me " you can't prove it "

Power ON is not just TOTAL SCAM. They also STEAL!!!!

Stay away from this company at any cost!!!

My 3GS supposedly had water damage and I never knew about it until I sent it off to Power On Recycling Services and they gave me a quote of 125$ for it, I sent it to them, and I get an email with a new quote of 25$! They claimed it had water damage, scuffed housing, and the headjack port was messed up. The phone was in perfect condition when I had sent it to them. I get it back and the apple logo is half scratched off, looks like it was done by a machine and there is water damage in the ports. I called and ******* about this to them and they kept dancing away from the subject. They would not give me an answer as to what the **** had happened to my phone, they just kept saying it had water damage, which it had not. I'm seriously thinking about taking them to court as I have evidence of the phone before and after I sent it to them. I'm not the only one who has had this kind of experience and I think they should be shut down. I cannot believe Apple would associate themselves with this shady "company".

Well, I wish I'd read this thread before I sent my Mac mini to PowerOn. I had an offer of $125 from Gazelle, but at the last minute I saw the PowerOn offer on the Apple website and it was $195. That was a big difference, so I sent it off.

They just sent me an email saying they were now offering me $60 because of a "defective systemboard" and they attached a photo of a Finder screen with wacky color pattens across it.

I don't know who's system they took a picture of but I don't think it's mine. Either it's the wrong system, they broke it or FedEx broke it in shipping. I know for a fact that there were no problems like that when it left my house becuase I was using it as my daily system and I couldn't have used the system they send a picture of.

When I sent it in, I had all the original box as I really look after my stuff and keep all the boxes, but I was shocked at the box they sent me. It was way over sized and had already been used at least once when I got it. I put in much more packing material than they supplied too, so I'd be surprized if it was damaged in transit.

I've rejected the offer and I suppose they'll send it back to me. I'll find out then if they've sent me a picture of someone else's system or if they've broken mine, but I doubt I'll be able to get the $125 I was offered by Gazelle now.

Really, really disappointed. I feel like I've been scammed. Next time I'll take my chances and pay the fees to sell it via eBay...

Apple needs to be made aware of the problems with this company. There is no doubt they are scamming people and I can't believe that a company like Apple is associated with them.

I have a contact of someone in Apple corporate that I am going to make aware of this thread. I don't think, after reading these complaints, Apple is going to be very happy about PowerOn's business practices.

I had exactly same case with PowerOn. PowerOn contacted me and they checked their own system and found they sent me back wrong iphone 4. They sent me an Apple gift card which contains more money than they offered me in the first hand. Yes they did - see below the keys!

- I have exchanged bunch of e-mails with the company and they refused to fix their mistake then I filled out complaint with BBB then PowerOn fixed their mistake. It took clean few months to fix their mistake.

So far, I have replied to the PowerOn email rejecting their offer and telling them that the system was not in that condition when it left my house.

I don't know if or how I would claim against FedEx for damaging it, but I guess it would hinge on whether or not PowerOn had insured the shipment.

I will be taking it up with them on Monday that's for sure and I'll spent the weekend hunting for any trace of the serial number of my old system. I still think it could be a different system as they don't do anything to track the serial number through this process, unlike when you send something back to Apple for repair.

So, I didn't get time to call PowerOn today, but I just got two emails from them in response to my rejection of their original assessment. The first said that had tried to recreate the defect that had been noted in the original evaluation and were unable to do so. The second confirmed that they were sending the gift card for the origninal amount.

I'm glad that they were not able to recreate the defect, but I have to wonder about their evaluation process. I think the graphics glitches they were saying were a system board failure was just a failure to connect the display port correctly...

At least they came through when I protested.

It's a scam! why in the world does Apple associate itself with this company? I sent them my husband's iPhone is excellent condition. It was working ok. No damage. They sent me ONE email (supposedly) telling me that it had water damage and a damaged screen and that they were not going to give me any money. Unfortunately, the window to reply to get it back was so narrow that I missed it - guess why? my husband was in the hospital having had brain surgery. When I got around to asking 'hey, why didn't you contact me?' they said 'past the deadline, already recycled'.

Liars! Frauds! There was NO damage to that phone. My husband kept a screen saver thingy on it and definitely had NO water damage. He was the most careful man with his things.

Don't do business with these people. They steal openly from you. Just read the emails here! Stay away.

I think Apple has some blame here - I trusted them to refer me to PowerOn. They know what a sketchy bunch they are.

Disgusted in Texas.

And oh yeah. My husband died. Thank you, PowerOn. I needed that money.
