What model/year of Mac do you have (Apple menu > About this Mac)? What model of LG display?

Note that you can’t output video over a USB-A port.
i have a 2010 MacBook air with a display port, but i used a usb-a to usb c on a dell xps last year to a HDMI screen.
that should work on your MacBook but some research about this might help you better.
Can I get an adapter for the USB port to the usb c?
I have a MacBook Air 10.15.7. My LGTV is 49UJ6200. It has HDMI ports. It’s about 3 years old

Are you saying that using such an adapter will allow the OP to connect an external display to a MacBook Air’s USB-A port and successfully output video to the display?
Ok, then your Mac outputs video through its Thunderbolt 2 port. That port is physically identical to and fully compatible with mini-displayport, so what you need is a mini-DP-to-HDMI cable or adapter. They’re <$15 on Amazon, etc.
It won’t help, your Mac cannot output video through the USB ports.
Please post your model (you posted the version of macOS earlier). For example, “MacBook Air, Early 2015”.
