Facetime Calls Fail between 12.4.8 and 14.1

I have two IPADs on IOS 12.4.8 (cannot upgrade further) and an Iphone and IPAD on IOS 14.1. When I Facetime from any 14.1 IOS device to the 12.4.8 IPADs on WIFI from different locations the Facetime call says poor connection and terminates after 7mins ? When I connect to the 12.4.8 IPADs on Cellular it works ok, also from MAC and a 12.4.8 IPAD to a 12.4.8 IPAD.

So the problem seems to be between 14.1 and 12.4.8. I have eliminated my wifi by trying it on iphones and IPADs with a higher IOS than 12.4.8 as they all work fine. I have reset the network, toggled facetime and reset the whole 12.4.8 IPADs but to no avail.

Is there a known problem with facetime between these releases ?

No no workaround that I have found. I have have an open case with Apple at the moment and am awaiting a response to the diagnostics they have taken.

No fix to the problem yet. They took further diagnostics last Friday and have promised me faithfully they would provide me with an update this coming Friday.

It is definitely a software issue as I have tried on multiple devices from different locations with same effect. I should get a follow up call on Friday from Apple support. I’ll keep you posted.

any update on this? having the same issue on an ipad mini 2.

facetime gets disconnected after 7 mins. Apple support ran diagnostics and found no issues.

I would go back to the Apple store and get your money back. It is a software problem.

Interesting. Thanks for the information! So hypothetically a facetime call between 2 devices running IOS 12.4.8/9 shouldn't have any issues, is this correct?

I have just upgraded to IOS 14.3 on my iphone and IOS 12.5 on the offending IPADs, but the problem still exits. I have reported this back to Apple support again.

My understanding there won't be though they did one for Covid 12.5
