Facetime Calls Fail between 12.4.8 and 14.1

I have two IPADs on IOS 12.4.8 (cannot upgrade further) and an Iphone and IPAD on IOS 14.1. When I Facetime from any 14.1 IOS device to the 12.4.8 IPADs on WIFI from different locations the Facetime call says poor connection and terminates after 7mins ? When I connect to the 12.4.8 IPADs on Cellular it works ok, also from MAC and a 12.4.8 IPAD to a 12.4.8 IPAD.


So the problem seems to be between 14.1 and 12.4.8. I have eliminated my wifi by trying it on iphones and IPADs with a higher IOS than 12.4.8 as they all work fine. I have reset the network, toggled facetime and reset the whole 12.4.8 IPADs but to no avail.


Is there a known problem with facetime between these releases ?

Same problem for me too. Very annoying. The sound stays on briefly but the screen goes blank with a green bar at the top of screen saying return to FaceTime call, which you cannot do. Have to cancel the lot and then try couple of time to re-FaceTime. Hope it gets fixed soon. My mum has same iPad as me and same latest version but when she speaks to other people it is fine and this doesn’t happen?

I have exactly the same issue. Two ipads. One on 12.4.9 and the other recently upgraded to 14.1. Both using wifi connection rather than mobile data. Ever since the upgrade to 14.1, Facetime calls drop after about 7 minutes. This issues seems to regularly crop up after new releases, although I'm sure it isn't a conscious attempt to get users to upgrade their hardware. ;-)

I had a conversation with chat support 2 days ago and they thought maybe it was my internet provider. To appease Apple Engineer, I called my provider and there was no issue with firewall or router. I spoke to a customer service rep and she basically said we have tried and you need to upgrade. This issue has been going on for close to 2 weeks with no resolution. I could have purchased a new ipad air 3rd generation at Costco, it was on sale but I took Apple's advice to wait until we resolve the problem. I went to the Apple Store today and the manager said he understood the frustration but he could offer me 10 percent off. To make it worst, they have nothing in stock so I am out luck to FaceTime my family. Very disappointed on their customer service.

I have also a similar problem with iPad Air(iOS 12.4.9 and iOS 12.4.8) for 3 months. I posted the problem (click here and here) three months ago and tried to find a solution. Recently, I found work around. For a month, I shift the FaceTime app to the Teams app(Microsoft). The Teams app working fine with iPad (iOS 12.4.9) to iPad (iOS 12.4.9), just like FaceTime.
