Calendar sync deleted iphone calendar and replaced with "On my mac" cals

Is to be expected that a sync made with iTunes will delete all entries in the "On My iPhone" calendar and replace with the "On My Mac" calendars (which are empty)?

Anyone know how calendar sync works? Is it set to overwrite iPhone calendar even if Mac calendar is empty?

This has resulted in losing all calendar data. I tried a restore but I don't have any option of going back to a date when I know I had my calendar full.
I had just updated my iOS 4 with latest update.
I understand that iTunes says it auto backs up before every update and sync, but since updating iOS 4 my old back up files seem to have been removed from my Mac.

Guys, you should only have to do this MobileMe dance once. Once you get all of the calendar onto the Mac/PC through MobileMe, it will stay sync'ed in iTunes. I was also able to sync my iPad in iTunes and the calendar sync'ed fine. I did not have events on the iPad, which is what started me down this whole road, as I really had just wanted to move my iPhone calendar to the iPad. I suffered through about 10 restores before I figured out how to get it done.

Good luck to all and glad that this workaround has helped.

So far it seems to have worked. (haven't done final step to sync from iTunes back to phone) I now have my calendar OFF the phone and into MobileMe and into iCal which makes me rest easier.

FYI: Make sure you set your timezone correctly for your account in MobileMe to prevent a slight heart attack when you see all your appt's at the wrong time in the MobileMe calendar. Even if you don't set it correctly, once you do it will put all the times back correctly.

Thanks again to MX727!

After our calendars were deleted, we got them back by "restoring from backup" and then following the MobileMe path. So, you need to select a backup that has the calendar, restore it and then follow the advice here.

If you don't know how to restore, post back and we'll walk you through it.

I went thru the restore procedure, however, restoring from backup didn't provide the data that once existed in my itouch. Is there a place where the data resides in backup that I'm unaware of???

I have changed to a mac from a PC (several Months ago) and had been putting off the sync of itouch with mac until now. Multitude of calendar entries since last hooked up to PC. All Gone? or is there some way to retrieve??? I certainly hope there is.

hi,

I'm using iPhone with Iphone OS 4.0.2 (8A400) and was trying to sync with my MacBook with MacOS X 10.6.4 and with iTunes 9.2.1 (5).
After synchronization, all events that i put on my iPhone were gone - deleted. The only
events left where those from my iCal 4.0.3 (1388) on my MacBook. How on
earth can that happen? Why are all my events that I put on Iphone are deleted?
Is there any way I can get them back, from the backup that was made before
synchronization? I really need those events, and I trusted iPhone, that it won't delete them.
Did I make a mistake, is there a option that asks you wether to overwrite your iPhone-calender
with the iCal calender?

Please help me. Thank you, klavus

I just updated my iphone 3gs to 4.0.2 last night and today I noticed that all of my calendar entries from when I last synced(about 2 weeks ago) are GONE. Are you f *ing kidding me apple? My LIFE was on there, telling me where I needed to be and when, what I needed to do. Now I have to try and remember everything and restore it all. And yes, I still want old calendar events incase I want to refer back to.

I just wanted to post this up and let apple/everyone know that this is not an isolated case.

The calender is also in the backup that iTunes do before every sync with the phone. So if u restore from the latest backup u will have the calender (and everything else) as it was when the backup was taken. Check in settings-devices or something where u can see when the latest backup was made. If it was made long time ago theres no way to get it back i guess.

Next week 4.1 is released, lets just hope it will fix this problem 😟

In my case, my cal info on Me is apparently corrupt so I want to replace the info on my Mac Pro with the cals from the iPhone 4 and sync that with Me. As with some of you, the iPhone is the primary. With iTunes 10 the sync no longer overwrites the iPhone but I still cannot get the cal info from the phone to the Mac Pro.

This is SO UNAPPLE!

If any Apple mgmt is reading, you need to let us specify the phone as Primary and let it overwrite all or any of the others.

Thanks,
Robert A. Ober

I have worked for a whole week to try to get my iphone cal sync with the outlook cal, and suffered 6-7 times restores, it was devastating that suddenly all of my iphone cal was gone a week ago, lucky the immediate restore (before a new backup without the iphone cal overwrites the backup with the iphone cal) saves the iphone cal on iphone.

this post is extremely useful and thanks for everyone here. I thought this was only my problem before but now it seems it is a common VERY SERIOUS ISSUE, and APPLE MUST FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS ASAP. I was waiting to pick up an iphone 4 order next month and this seriously affects my confidence on the reliability on iphone.

Anyways I just updated the itunes to 10.0 and iphone to 4.0.2 also the office outlook update (07 September 2010) as well as windows vista business. I am going to try to sync it to experiment it works or not.

Thanks for you guys.
