Calendar sync deleted iphone calendar and replaced with "On my mac" cals

Is to be expected that a sync made with iTunes will delete all entries in the "On My iPhone" calendar and replace with the "On My Mac" calendars (which are empty)?

Anyone know how calendar sync works? Is it set to overwrite iPhone calendar even if Mac calendar is empty?

This has resulted in losing all calendar data. I tried a restore but I don't have any option of going back to a date when I know I had my calendar full.
I had just updated my iOS 4 with latest update.
I understand that iTunes says it auto backs up before every update and sync, but since updating iOS 4 my old back up files seem to have been removed from my Mac.

Despite all the updates, I am still having issues. In the last few days a few entries are being repeatedly duplicated. Also the iPhone cal has gotten VERY SLOW. I am currently trying to turn off the Me syncs on the iPhone. After syncing to the Mac, (told it to sync to iCal) I could see entries in the Day and Month lists but Calendars was blank on the iPhone.

Again Apple Folks, Please let us designate the iPhone Calendar as PRIMARY. BTW, I have not upgraded to the newer Me calendar.

Y'all be cool,
Robert

Anybody now able to sync the iPhone calendar successfully with iCal? <<</div>

From my experience, using google calendar and google's microsoft exchange sync is the best solution for both this question and to deal with the calendar sync problems which are the basis of this thread.

I have three devices set up to do this, both calendar and contacts... two sync from one account and one from another and, once set up, is both seamless, transparent and has been reliable for a year.

There are a number of hoops to jump through, but I have some setup steps from my learning curve at http://bevhoward.com/GoogleSync.htm

iCal <<</div>

I've tinkered with this a little bit, and, since google calendar supports iCal imports, I'm assuming that once setup with a calendar you sync via google's exchange sync, the iCal entries should sync as well. I do know that setting up an external google calendar such as holidays does sync to the iOS devices. Please report back on this.

Hope that this information is of value.

None of that applies to me. I am an IT Consultant who runs his own iMap server and use Me.com for having a calendar in the cloud. Long story but I need to replace the cal on me.com. The calendar on the iPhone is my Primary. So I had planned to replace the iCal calendars on the big Mac with what is on the phone and sync that to me.com, but as you may know, the iTunes sync to the Mac iCal is BROKEN. It wipes the calendar on the phone.

So, anybody successfully sync the iPhone calendar to iCal via the newest iTunes(10.1 (54))?

Thanks,
Robert

Wellllll,

4.2.1 and the latest iTunes does not delete the cals on the phone but does not populate iCal in my case. BTW, if I click on Calendars in the Calendar app on the phone, it says I have 4 Calendars but none show in that screen. I do have my events though.

Gonna try turning on me.com sync again and see how bad that is. I do have multiple backups of the iPhone backups so I should be able to get the current events.

Not happy! I am a Consultant and need my Calendar to sync properly.
