AirPort Express 802.11n WiFi max cap

Greetings,

I called yesterday to increase Internet speed from 100mbps to 200mbps download max to the house via our cable Internet provider. However, in testing speeds this morning, I'm curious to find out if my AirPort Express may not even allow higher speeds that our previous cap. I checked in the instructions, on the box, and even found this link with specs but nothing comprehensible to me indicates a cap speed. I *love* this WiFi router and it's lasted the longest for us so far.

If it doesn't go higher, what do you suggest for the next step up? Thanks in advance, Apple Community.

If you are saying that your AirPort Express connects to your modem using a wired Ethernet connection and provides a wireless network that way, the specifications for the Ethernet port on the Express are rated at 10/100 Mbps. So, the maximum Internet connection speed that you could ever attain would be in theory, 100 Mbps.

Speeds in the 80-90 Mbps range would be more realistic due to the loss in speed that will always occur with a wireless connection, even if the WiFi device is close to the AirPort Express. If a WiFi device is located a few rooms away from the AirPort Express, then the speeds will slow down considerably due to distance and obstructions in the signal path between the AirPort Express and WiFi device.

If you like the Apple products, they are still available in new, refurbished and used categories from eBay.com.

An AirPort Extreme would provide at least 3 times the speed that an AirPort Express might deliver, so that would be the model to look for. If your speed plan with your provider tops out at 200 Mbps, that would be of course be the theoretical maximum speed that could expect on an Internet connection.

170-180 Mbps would be realistic if the WiFi device is close to the AirPort. Speeds will slow as the WiFi device moves further and further away from the router.
