iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

Lots of people in Korea have this problem too, I just hope that it can be solved by software update.

When I boot up my iphone 12pro, and when I watch dark video especially including black color, the OLED doesn't show me the complete black color. I really hope that it is just a software bug and can be fixed by software update.

After extensive testing of 14.4 beta 1, here are my observations:

  1. no flickering above 25 percent
  2. above 25 percent there is a backlight which goes to true black after less than one second, even in true black videos
  3. apple still needs to fix the elevated black levels below 25 percent brightness

I am beginning to feel it maybe possible to fix it with software but I will return mine anyway for a new unit before January 8th.

@TheJumitor, based on your case you have only 14 days only to return/refund your iphone (16 Novembre ) which I have the same situation like you. I am sending today the second time to Apple Repair center, as France Apple Sales Refuse to exchange or replace my screen 。。。(although the Apple support has contacted the Sales Departments to ask them to do so, but ....... nope), now he will try his best to exchange the phone at repair center but ... not 100% sure he can be done, but at least give it a try...

I want everyone to remember a green tint issue with iPhone 11, it was fixed with iOS 13.6.1: https://www.pcmag.com/news/apple-fixes-iphone-11-green-tint-problem-with-ios-1361

Apple took a while to fix it but they did it.

I think it’s just a matter of time...

iOS 13.6.1 changelog

iOS 13.6.1 includes bug fixes for your iPhone.

  • Addresses an issue where unneeded system data files might not be automatically deleted when available storage is low
  • Fixes a thermal management issue that caused some displays to exhibit a green tint
  • Fixes an issue where Exposure Notifications could be disabled for some users

Yes my 12PM had this issue. This year there are many problems with iphone 12 series

  1. Green tint
  2. Dim glow
  3. flickering of camera 4k 60fps
  4. Red Ghosting while scrolling

these are the issues I had with my 12PM. My xs max did not had any of these issues. Regret selling xs max. I sold my 12PM i am happy with my decision because I can’t live with these issue after paying 1400$ Shame on you apple.

Looks like the mini that i have has no issue with black levels. It is completely dark. It is on iOS 14.1. My iPhone 12 Pro is on iOS 14.2 has the issue. Posted both screen capture:

iPhone 12 mini (<100% brightness, iOS 14.1)

iPhone 12 Pro (<100% brightness, iOS 14.2)

I will update mini to iOS 14.2, see if the issue will be same as the Pro. Reporting here shortly.

wow now i am seriously confused. How a direct picture of my screen with the two buttons on the iphone shows me this yellow/green tint picture. the yellow follow a circle! As child we learnd never to play with an magnet nearby electric components. But todays iphones have a round magnetic field to positioning the wireless charging cal it MagSafe!

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a connection here.

I promised to report when I get my iPhone 12 pro max.

See of the following pictures.

Left the new 12 pro max right 12 pro.

First picture shows the Settings, I could see a better grey. On the right the grey is slightly yellow/green.

The other pictures shows at first 100% brightness. Both phones are perfect black.

Second pictures set show at first the around 50% and the last set around 30% backlight brightness. In all of this brightness the Max looks perfect. Lust but not least, my Home Screen where the issue also slightly visible.

Same problem.

Its driving me crazy because I usually spend 30 minutes to an hour reading in bed before I go to sleep, and this awful glow is killing my eyes. I've had to bring my old phone to bed every night because this one is unusable at low brightness. I have a yearly trade in plan with my carrier, and I'm now counting down the 30 days I have to return my 11 Pro. If there is no software fix for this within the next week or two (and I doubt there will be, this sounds more like a hardware issue with faulty panels) I'm going to have to return my 12.

One other thing I found is that playing an HDR video lowers the brightness threshold for which the issue occurs. Here is what a dolbyvision HDR video looks like at 0%. You can see the horrendous green (on camera, its actually more gray to the human eye) tint.

When playing the same video at 30 - 50% brightness, the video itself is able to go pure black, but the sidebars, which should also be pure black, are still lit up, and flash erratically.

I have screen tint issue.

Brand new iPhone 12 Pro...got it yesterday and the screen has a yellowish/brown tint.

Comparison phot of iPhone XR and 12 Pro ...exact same brightness settings (about 75%)

I tried turning True Tone on and off....does not remove the yellowish tint, just changes the colouring slightly.

no matter what setting I adjust, it never looks white.
