I'm locked out of my Mac Book PLEASE HELP!

I have always used my apple id password to log in to my mac for several years now. I am 100% sure I have the right password, because I am able to use my icloud account.

Once, I pressed the forgot password on the lock screen, it made me change my icloud password, which I did successfully (I know because I just logged in here to ask for help!).

But when I go to log into my mac is not letting me. The bar to enter my password has a "?" that says "please enter your iCloud password as of 9/18/15" which I actually know because I had never changed until now and neither password is working!!!!!!

HELP!!! PLEASE!

Hey there Daniel,

It would definitely help us all to know several things: What year MacBook do you have, and what system is it running?

There are possibly several ways to reset your password (Google: Forgot my Mac's password, or Macbook password reset, or something like those. Sorry if you need your computer for this; you might have to borrow a computer or phone to get internet)

The quickest and easiest might be this: (cut and pasted from the web, of course)

Use Recovery Mode to reset your password:

You'll need to boot your Mac into Recovery Mode in order to access the password reset tool. I've found the easiest way to do that is to turn off your Mac.  With your Mac turned off, press and hold the Command and R keys on your keyboard, then press the power button. Hold in Command+R until you see a progress bar show up below the Apple logo. You can also get into

Recovery Mode by restarting your Mac and trying to time the keyboard combo of Command+R, but in my experience, starting with your Mac turned off is the most reliable method.

With your Mac now in Recovery Mode, click on Utilities in the menu bar followed by Terminal. A new window will show up, waiting for you to enter a command. Type "resetpassword" as one word, without the quotes, and press Return.

Close the Terminal window, where you will then find the Reset Password tool. A list of all user accounts on your Mac will be on display. To reset the password for your account, you'll need to set a new password for all users. Make sure you write down the new password for anyone who shares your Mac.

-----------------

Don't do this unless you know for sure that other methods won't work, since you are messing around with stuff that may be above your paygrade. JK

Hope that helps!
