Apple will use the manufacturing date of the product for warranty coverage if the original sale is not on file with Apple at least in the US. If the computer has AC+ for three years as verified on the Apple website, then you shouldn't have to worry since standard repairs should be covered. I've seen some posts on here which implied that Apple requires physical proof of purchase in some regions to confirm ownership before performing a repair likely due to the number of stolen systems in that region.

Unless you purchase direct from Apple (or perhaps an Apple authorized reseller) you will never be able to have Apple remove an EFI firmware password lock if it ever becomes enabled on the computer since you won't have valid proof of purchase.

You can purchase used Mac equipment anywhere it is sold. However, you cannot then purchase AppleCare separately because it's condition is an unknown. If you shop, you may find a used model with an AppleCare policy still in effect. AppleCare adds two years of extended warranty to the standard one-year warranty that you get when purchasing a new computer.

Apple does sell its own refurbished equipment. They come with a standard one-year warranty, and you can purchase the extended AppleCare warranty for them.
