Yesterday my hard disk was hacked. Don't know what, if anything, was stolen, but am assuming anything on the disk has been compromised. Have run Malwarebytes and no virus/malware is reported. What is the best/preferred way to sanitize the disk and feel confident I am not again exposing my data to a hacker? Thanks for any help. I need the machine and right now I will not even turn it on.

I am embarrassed to inform that I did give someone access to my computer. I thought I was dealing with a trusted technical service technician from Canon printers. Hard to believe this happened, but it did. Have isolated this PC and do not turn on when connected to internet. In process of changing all passwords and have seen no foul play as of now, but it's probably too early to think I am clear. Would like to clean affected MAC and reuse. If no way to assure this can be done will just dispose. If you can help, would appreciate, but understand if you don't want to "waste" your time helping such a stupid person.
Change all your passwords.
Report your credit cards to your banks as possibly compromised.
Back up your data.
Wipe the drive, reinstall the OS. Reinstall the apps from their original sources, not back ups.
Restore your data.
And what makes you think your hard disk was “hacked”?
We are suspicious that it was hacked because unless you gave someone access to your computer there is no way someone can get into it. So why do you think it was hacked?
