importing iPhotos into Photos
"Old" iMac: 10.6.8 and iPhoto '08 v. 7.1.5. Brand new iMac Catalina 10.15.7, Photos 5.0.
I downloaded the iPhotos ugrade tool I think it was 1.1 and it appeared to successfully upgrade my iPhotos library.
I successfully copied the upgraded iPhotos library to an external drive.
Connected the external drive to the new mac and began the process of importing the iPhoto library to Photos. During this long process (evidently, I had 21,000 photos--that it is what the progress displayed) it seemed to stop making progress.
It occurred to me that the problem might be I ran out of iCloud storage (I don't presently have additional iCloud storage.) I changed the setting and deselected "automatically upload to iCloud" yes, during the middle of the importing process.
It now appears I have a little under 14,000 photos; some are crystal clear, some are blurry and pixelated. It also appears that not all the photos have been imported.
A message at the bottom of the Years display indicated 'curating process complete."
However, in the left sidebar, the library is named "iPhoto Library.photoslibrary_prepare".
In other threads, this indicates there was a problem during the import.
My #1 question is, is my best course of action to delete the entire effort at the import in my brand new Mac and try again?
#2: Or is it possible that the import process is still on-going in the background?
I apologize for the long context here but I thought it might help someone pin point solid guidance.
And #3: is it advisable to select "keep folder organization", or is this redundant and just make the import more work for Photos than it needs to be.? I do want the imported library to be organized into the albums that they are presently organized in.
Thank you to anyone who might help.
