I just bought a used Apple Watch Series 5 and tried to pair it with my iPhone 10. The watch said it couldn't pair with iOS 13.7 which surprised me because iOS 14 didn't exist until about 6 weeks ago. I have my original Apple Watch paired with the iPhone, is it possible that is the true reason the Series 5 won't pair?

OK, I was able to update my iPhone 10 to iOS 4.2, and the apps I'd had reports of crashing under it, work fine (so far, knock on wood).
Next I successfully paired the Series 5, then restored from today's backup of my Series 0 watch. Last I reset my Series 0 watch.

Unfortunately I don't know what version of WatchOS is on it since I can't get past the pairing step. And I can't put iOS 14 on my iPhone until I'm sure a critical app works with it - so far some of the app users say it crashes on iOS 14 while others don't seem to have a problem on iOS 14.

If the watch 5 has WatchOS7 on it then it requires a phone with ios14.
