My internal microphone isn't visible.

2019 16" MBP w/i9 processor

My internal microphone is not visible, so I am unable to do any screen recording with audio.

What I've tried so far:


  1. Restart
  2. Reset the NVRAM, but I am not sure anything actually happened.
  3. Entered Safe Mode - still no microphone
  4. Diagnostics did not indicate any problems.
  5. Uninstalled and reinstalled Zoom because I do have "ZoomAudioDevice" listed as an input.
  6. Worked with tech support who led me into some menu in the library where I deleted two .plist files.
  7. Reset the NVRAM, but again, I am not sure anything actually happened.
  8. Entered Safe Mode - no microphone
  9. Reinstalled Mac OS
  10. Still no microphone.

Looks like you have troubleshot this thing thoroughly including involving Apple Support.

I believe that the only thing left now to do is to wipe the MacBook Pro clean and reinstall macOS and test again before you bring restore it from your normal backup file.

You have a 2019 MacBook Pro. Have 12 months elapsed since the purchase? If NOT then use that 1YR Limited warranty that Apple products have and take advantage of it by taking your MacBook Pro to the Apple Store.
