I have one of the original iPad minis and today I attempted to update the iPad. its saying that it is up to dat .. can the iPad not be updated because its too old?

Hello, yes, you cannot update your iPad mini to a more lighter version than iOS 9.3.5, reason why is because the hardware is too old to run iOS 10 or later version of iOS because it wouldn’t support it, so practically, yes, your iPad won’t update and will never update
