HDMI Cable
What cable do I use to connect my Nikon 300mm camera to my MacBook pro to download pictures?

The D300s has a mini-USB port. It came with a mini USB to USB-A cable that you may or may not have. Depending on your MacBook Pro model (sorry, I should have asked that, too), it will have either USB-A (older Macs, pre-2016) or USB-C (newer/current Macs). If it’s the latter, there’s a direct cable available:

If you have the cable that came with the camera, then a USB-C-to-A adapter will allow you to connect it to a newer Mac.

There are plenty of third-party versions of that available.
If your Mac has USB-A ports, then a mini USB-to-USB cable (like the one that came with the camera) is what you need.

Please indicate which Nikon camera you have (300mm is not a camera model, it’s a lens focal length).
You would use the included Micro-USB to USB cable.
See the camera’s manual for instructions: http://download.nikonimglib.com/archive2/5UpqV00JNZaF017CC9B13VFdDs08/D300S_NT(En)05.pdf
If your MacBook has USB-C ports, you can use an adapter:
USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple
HDMI is NOT likely to be involved in the solution.
Older cameras used a Firewire cable.
@Phil0124 - the camera port (and cable that came with the camera) is mini-USB, not micro-USB. The two plugs are not physically compatible.
