iPod classic 7th generation Help!

My friend passed away and his iPod classic has around 50 songs and 3 games on it along with his name. The iPod is going to a small child and the music and games are unsuitable. However I cannot find a way to wipe it clean of all music and games and also old user name. I do not know his apple identity or his iTunes password so without those I am stuck. Surely there must be a way to delete everything from this iPod any help gratefully appreciated. Thank you

You don't need to know any details about the previous account to restore an iPod classic on a computer. If yours is running Catalina you would use tools in Finder rather than iTunes to restore the device. Your MacBook has some ports. If it doesn't have a USB B port then it must have USB C, and you could use a USB B to USB C adaptor cable to connect the iPod's 30-pin cable to your computer. Failing that find a willing volunteer to help you.
