A Few Thoughts:

Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for Connections) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. Your iPad may not be being read promptly, and so by resetting these, all of the ports would be configured to how they should be. It might take a few tries (up to three) to reset both. So, be certain your have the time to do so.

  • New User:

Try creating a new administrator user, and performing it there.

  • Try Another Computer.

What happens when you connect it to another computer? If it doesn't read there, then maybe the cable is damaged, and you need to replace the cable.
