HDMI to dvi cable compatibility

I have an Apple TV 3rd gen and a 2005 flatscreen tv. I am trying to connect them with dvi but they have different connectors. I have pictured both connectors. The adapter I am talking about is the official Apple one. I will use the “pc audio in” with an optical to 3.5mm adapter to get sound fro the Apple TV. Any hope of the Apple TV working with this ancient tv?

Apple TV is meant to be used with an HDMI cable to an HDMI port. An adapter may or may not work (i.e., Apple makes no guarantee). DVI was really meant for connecting computers, not media boxes. DVI on your TV may or may not support HDCP, which is required for all commercial streaming services. Movies, TV shows and live TV may refuse to play without an HDCP end-to-end encrypted connection. European ‘HD ready’ TVs did require DVI to be HDCP compliant.

You may need to set Apple TV to RGB video output instead of the default YCbCr for this.
