Can't type certain capital letters on my mac

For some reason I can no longer type capital 'P' or 'M' without using the capslock button. Nothing appears when I hold 'shift' + 'p' or 'm'.

I'm using the keyboard on the mac and tried an external keyboard so I know it's not the keyboard. What's going on?

Use the Keyboard Viewer on Mac - Apple Support

See if it helps to check on screen how your keyboard shows to pressing shift and other key which does not working.

Also check if you have same issue in safe mode.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

NoteSafe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed.
