file doesn't exist

My computer recently updated and now I am unable to open certain files saved to my documents folder. Specifically, two Numbers documents and a Pages document. When I try to open them I get this message:

Very frustrating since the file very much does exist and can be seen by finder and moved around as usual. WTF?

You have done the following, correct?

  • Not running a beta of macOS?
  • Right-clicked on the particular document and chose Open with the appropriate default application?
  • Chose Open from the respective application file menu, navigated to the document in question with the file chooser, and chose Open?
  • Drag and dropped the document onto the application icon in the Dock?
  • Have {Pages,Numbers} v10.1 for Mojave, and v10.2 for Catalina (if now installed)?
  • You have booted into Safe Boot mode, attempted to open the document? Rebooted normally, and tried to open it again?
    • Does the file open correctly in Safe Boot mode, but not following a normal boot?
