Please read Reset your Mac login password - Apple Support.
Your Apple ID can be used to reset a login password. Refer to If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support.
If you are ultimately unsuccessful, erase the Mac and restore its content from a Time Machine backup. You still might need its password though.
