Outlook account keeps logging out

For the last week I’ve had to log into my outlook account every day on my phone. Why am I being logged out? I’ve tried deleting the account and reinstalling it but that hasn’t made any difference. I have iOS 14.2 on an apple 7 phone.

iPhone 7, iOS 14

I have looked at Twitter feeds and Microsoft responses. They claim this is due to the fact that a given device is not "registered". The proposed fix is to authenticate the device (you must have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your iphone).

  1. Go to msft.it/6016pGSFn and sign in with your Outlook account
  2. You will be prompted to go to the Authenticator: it will generate a code, but I didn't have to use it. You then go back to the msft.... page in your browser and it should automatically refresh. But if you're using two devices to do this, you might need to enter the code.
  3. Tick off the box "I sign in frequently on this device. Don't ask me for a code".

I've only just tried it so will see over the next few days if I still get signed out.

Still, Microsoft, if you're reading this, don't you think it's kind of stupid? If I weren't using this device frequently why in the world would I add my Outlook account info to the Mail app?! The problem does not seem to happen with the OneDrive app or the Microsoft Word app. So I suspect Microsoft just wants to force people to use their Outlook app - but I like Mail better, thank you very much.

I got it! As I tried to re type my password I saw I had "Mail days to sync" for one month so I changed to no limit, I think only outlook accounts have that options because my gmail account doesn't show it. Let's try it... I thought I was getting hacked but then when I checked logged in activity doesn't show anything and I have the 2 step verification so I always get a text if anybody tried to log in. I think this is our problem. Let me know~!

Exactly the same situation for me!

I have 3 outlook accounts, and I get logged out of the mail app several times a day on each one.

Its a shame that when apple do updates, they dont test them to make sure there aren't any bugs before unleashing them onto the public. It's obvious that it has to do with ios 14.1 & 14.2 as it only started happening after downloading updates.

Its also a shame that when questions get asked here, that there aren't enough high level contributors able to give concise answers to peoples problems, c'est la vie.

It’s also been doing this to me multiple times a day for the past week or so, I deleted my accounts via settings then tried to re-log in and it told me that I can’t use a personal account and has to be a work or school account? Just tried it again to screen shot it and let me log in with my personal account, but it’s very frustrating and has only been happening since the recent update🙃 I’ve changed my passwords and everything, it also keeps logging me out of my facebook app? Not sure if that’s an occurring issue for anybody as well?

Well your a one off. Had issues with both up to date windows machines with the issue. So looking more of an issue with Microsoft. This issue has been known to happen on android In the past. It’s something in relation to Microsoft Authenticator from what I’ve read. It’s like my devices keep getting seen as a new device and then throwing it out. Doing my head in. Have a few accounts on every device and putting in multiple passwords all the time is cooking my head.

Me too! I’m using the IPhone mail account and I have a few email accounts. Mine keeps logging out of one specific email. I initially thought maybe my email got hacked so changed the password but it kept happening. I tried to delete the account and add it again but no difference. Just keeps saying ‘no password provided for outlook’. I think it only started since I updated my phone to IOS 14.2.
