Followed all steps Mac still will not update

What are the next steps that can be taken to update my MacBook Air if the original steps aren't working?

It stays "about 2 hours and 21 minutes remaining" for about 20 minutes and then it gives me this error: I tried to move from Big Sur to Monterey thinking that perhaps I needed to go from 11 to 12 before 13. This is the error I get when I try to upgrade to Monterey: “The operation couldn’t be completed. (PKDownloadError error 8.)" I'm not sure what is wrong and I would love any advice on how to fix this. I appreciate any help! Thanks!

You need a 2012 or later Mac with at least 20GBs of free space on the drive.
