How to safely clear "other" storage in macbook air?

I am looking to find out the safest way to clear the "other" storage of my macbook air 2018.

It currently says that out of my 121.02 GB storage that 63.8 GB is "other" storage.

Any tips on how to empty this number safely?

I want to complete the macOS catalina 10.15.7 update but it won't finish due to me only having 5.23GB storage free on my macbook before I end up buying a hard-drive to allow me to no longer worry.
