carplay stopped working

Since I updated to ios 14.1 my CarPlay has stopped working. I've reset everything (phone and car radio) used several different cords (Apple and Amazon certified) and it still doesn't work. I even updated to 14.2 to see if this would resolve it and no luck. It seems every time there is an update, CarPlay breaks. Any ideas?

Hello raina,

Does Apple know that the iOS 14.x updates are causing all sorts of issues with CarPlay? It's all over the place, here, in Reddit and elsewhere. The problems vary depending on the vehicle apparently. Usually iPhones with iOS 13.x work perfectly. In many cases CarPlay stops working right after the update.

In my case, the car is a brand new Acura TLX 2021. CarPlay worked perfectly with two different iPhones XS Max, but stopped working yesterday right after updating to 14.2. I did all the hocus pocus one can do with the phone, without any avail. Now comes the sweet part: I read somewhere that for someone, CarPlay was not working when the phone was initially charged to 100 percent. I know, I know, that's a weird one. But anyway I tried again this morning with the phone 80 percent charged and… it worked instantly right after I plugged it.

This is one weird one. I will have to recheck this over the next few days and try to reproduce this, and see if it was not sheer luck…

Too many issues with too many people, right after an update. That puts the finger squarely on Apple, my beloved company. Here they goofed somewhere and they should acknowledge it, not put the blame on the car manufacturers. Don't get me wrong, this is one wonderful phone. But for me CarPlay has become an essential tool and it should work as easily as any Apple product, seamlessly and without having to try a lot of workarounds.

Thanks Raina. Nope, no restrictions. I also followed the steps on the link, still nada. I did some digging and it looks like when 14.2 was in beta there were CarPlay issues then. Maybe Apple didn't fix that issue. I tried my wife's new 12 Pro Max (same iOS) and got the same results. I guess I'll try to restore my phone from an earlier date and see if that helps. I don't want to, but I do a bit of traveling and CarPlay comes in handy.

Hello.

I've been in contact with Apple about this issue too. They got me to totally reset my phone to factory settings and reload my phone and it still hasn't fixed this issue. I've tried different phones, different cords, pulled out my dash and plugged a brand new Apple cord directly into the unit (I don't have bluetooth....it's hard wired) and nothing has worked.

Come on Apple......fix this please as it's affecting so many people.

Hello awhiteknight1999.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're experiencing issues using your iPhone with CarPlay. If so, we'd like to look into this issue with you.

You've already done a great job in troubleshooting this issue. Have you been able to test a different iPhone with CarPlay? If so, does that other iPhone work without any issues?

Do you currently have any restrictions enabled on your iPhone that limit the use of CarPlay? You can find out by going to Settings > General > CarPlay as well as Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps.

We also would like to share a helpful resource for when facing issues with CarPlay. Please check out the following link:

Hey there!

Thanks for updating us. There are a few more things you can attempt to see if it helps. On your iPhone, you can navigate to Settings > General > Reset and tap on Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before. You can also attempt to temporarily rename your iPhone by going to Settings > General > About > Name.

If these steps do not help you, please reach out to Apple Support for assistance. You can reach them by going here:
