3D Picture/Website effect

I would like to create an effect with FCPX like in the intro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6bMiU_SHb4

Does anybody know how to do that? I used to do that with the tilt/swivel 3D effect in Premiere Pro quite easily. I could not find that inside FCPX or am I missing something very easy here? :)

There are probably a bunch of such effects, not built-in but which you can get from third parties.

Or if you have Motion, you can create your own.

All you need is to add a camera and a behavior.

Here is one such example, using an effect I created in Motion just as a quick hack (two minutes or so).

Once created, it is available to use in FCP.

I'm not an expert in FCP-X as I spend most of my time in Premiere, but I dabble in FCP-X now and then.

My experience with FCP-X (correct me if I am wrong) is that this kind of stuff would be more easily done in Motion - by either doing the composite there and exporting it into FCP-X, or by building an effect in Motion that you can transfer to and apply in FCP-X.

There is the Distort effect, which will give you corner pinning control so you could, I suppose, make a faux tilt/swivel effect by key framing the corner locations over time.

There also might be available plug-ins that could help - a quick Google search found this one, there might be more out there:

I created an effect.

I added a camera, and added a behavior to the camera. I don’t recall what behavior it was and I am not near my mac now to check, as I said before it was just a quick hack. There are many behaviors you can apply and experiment with.

Then in FCP one just adds the effect to any clip you want. If it is not doing what you expected, control-click, Open in a Motion, adjust, save and try again.

As you gain experience in Motion you will start publishing parameters so they can then be modified inside FCP - like the angle a camera turns, or its position, and so on. It is a fascinating program to use.

All you have to do is Save the effect.

When you do, you can choose a Category and an optional "Theme".

I suggest you create your own Category, so all your efffects will appear together in FCP.

For example, in Motion you save the effect as "tilt" in a category "My Effects".

Then in FCP, in the Effects browser, a new category "My Effects" will be visible and inside will be your "tilt" effects.

Themes can be used to further group things inside a given category.
