Hi,
I have gotten weird results with daily walking/running distance and tested it today.
I measured 20 meters and walked it, my iPhone thinks I walked well over 50 meters. My measuring can’t be that much off, any way to fix this?

I tried several times measuring different things. Just 2 steps never registered, so I had to try something different.
I did several tests with 10, 15, 20 and 30 steps, and while the steps where generally counted almost perfectly on lower step amounts (as expected), on 30 steps it might be easily already off by 8 (38 steps recorded on 30 on one occasion), and the distance was confusing.
It seems that most distances of 10-20 steps all show 0,01km distance travelled. Some of those didn’t register at all.
30 steps is where the weirdness shows clearer. It would show anything between 9-40 steps taken, and distance travelled with those 30 steps would be anything between 7,7 meters and 28 meters (approximate: around 20 meters in reality).
It seems like either my step count gets confused, gps, or both.

Frankly, I never tested a calculator or any electronic measuring equipment for its correctness, be it my Thermometer, BP monitor, Blood Sugar Monitor or Oximeter. It never occurred to me.
Measuring and validating steps in meters / kms is beyond my imagination. I always use them as a guiding tool in my day to day workout. If at all an error exists, it will be averaged out over a period and never need to know the exact steps taken or recorded by my iPhone. Whether it is 10 Kms or 10.023 Kms.
Unless you are using it in a laboratory for some experiments. If yes, in that case you have chosen a wrong equipment for your science experiments.

No, this is only for my personal use. But my interest spiked when I noticed that my daily average distance is way above what it should. And in my case, it isn’t about some measly 30 meters off per day. I am talking about having walked for 4,5km during a day and my iPhone telling me it was well over 9km. It also tends to end up on the side of more rather than less, so it doesn’t really balance itself out over time either 😕
Since steps are more accurate than distance, I’m beginning to wonder if this could be simply gps-issues, and if so, whether it can even be fixed 🤔
iPhone also records the number of steps taken.
Please take two (02) steps and check your health app, you will get the answer.
