How do I add multiple keywords to a photo in Photos?

If I open the Info pane for a single (or multiple) photo(s) in Photos (version 5.0 on MacBook Pro running 10.15.7) and place the cursor in the 'Add a Keyword' panel, I can type in one keyword (with auto complete), when I hit return, tab, or comma the keyword is entered but the cursor disappears from the panel. To add another keyword to the same photo(s) I have to reposition the cursor in the panel and start typing again.

Is there a keystroke sequence that will allow me to add multiple keywords without having to reposition the cursor?

Hi

The best way it to open the keyword manager pane (CMD-k or from the window menu.

Then you can easily create keywords, see which you have, assign shortcuts to some of them. And importantly - easily apply multiple ones to any selected images.

Problem is I have several hundred keywords, and scrolling through that list to select specific keywords is even more annoying than the necessity to reposition the cursor.

Shouldn't the cursor stay in the selected panel after typing?

Yes - but it doesn't.

You can make the keyword manager pane bigger if you want to.

I agree. This is very annoying and actually makes me consider an alternative to Apple Photos. :(

I hoped that the issue would be resolved in Big Sur, but it's the same...
