error in installing Big Sur
Error — unable to installi Big Sur. Attempting to upgrade from High Sierra on 27" 2019 iMac.

To clarify, are the iMacs getting frozen on normal reboots? Or are they only getting frozen when the macOS installer tries to reboot?
Also, is the Big Sur hard drive a bootable installer, or does it contain a bootable copy of macOS? What software did you use to create the installer or the copy of macOS?

• Freezing occurs when OS installer tries to reboot; machine starts up, then turns off after about 10 seconds.
• The boot drive was created on a powerbook by downloading the Apple Installer and applying to external boot drive.
Yes, well aware of the server issue, thanx. My problem is actually trying to install on 2019 & 2020 iMac 27”. They freeze while rebooting. Also will not boot from external Big Sur hard drive.
