Recently I’ve noticed that my iPhone XS Max has a continuous ticking noise when holding the bottom of the phone to my ear. I’ve also noticed when I’m on the phone every so often (not very often more like every few hours) a loud click comes out the bottom of my phone, I don’t know whether it’s the charger or the phone with the phone calls. Has my phone been tapped I’m worried!

To make sure, that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings and test it afterwards, without using the latest backup.
In case the clicking sound is gone, restore the data from the backup.

If it is not, make an appointment, at your nearest Authorized Apple Service Provider, to get it diagnosed:
Did you test, if you also hear the static noise, using the headphones, instead of the external speaker?
I have reset my phone, however the constant ticking must be normal or in my head as when I held my sisters iPhone 7 Plus to my ear the ticking was even louder. Just gonna wait to see what phone calls are like and I’ll get back to you, I’ll need the full day to test as the click noise on phone calls is intermittent so it could take like an hour of a phone call to hear it.
I haven’t tested that but I will. My mum and sis think I have hypersensitive hearing with the ticking in the phone as my sis can’t hear when she puts both phones to her ear but I can. I’ve had a history of hearing frequencies others couldn’t. The louder crackle (sounds just like one CRACK, yesterday only happened once) that happens when I’m on the phone has only been happening since the latest update. I will have to see what happens today, I haven’t been on the phone to anyone since the reset so it hasn’t crackled yet, I’ll see how it goes!
The loud crackle I get only happens when I’m on call with someone, however I don’t know if it’s my phone or theirs. Our calls have dropped a couple times. I’ve only really been calling one person though for long durations which is when the click happened. They also heard it. However since resetting it I don’t know if it’s just me but my speakers seem to sound better when playing music.
