Big Sur vs. Gatekeeper Policy

Hi Everyone! Am trying to install Big Sur, but as soon as the installation finishes, I got an error message saying that "the package installassistant.pkg fails to meet gatekeeper policy".

I looked up Gatekeeper in my System Prefs, and I currently have it set to allow "installation of apps from App Store and identified developers".

I'd have guessed Apple would be #1 on that list...

What should I do? Thanks!

The error persisted even after multiple past attempts.

Issue resolved today after contacting Apple Support. Pls check out the following suggested steps:

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups > add new user account as Administrator. Upgrade to Big Sur from the new Admin user account.
  2. In case the error repeats in the above step, click on AppStore > macOS Big Sur and download the same.
  3. If both the above don't work, the final option is to reinstall the OS through recovery mode.

On an Intel-based Mac, you can use Option-Command-R at startup to upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

The 2nd step worked for me after I encounter the download error in the 1st!

Update: Issue resolved, downloading from App store did fix the issue indeed,

  1. Reboot, and makes sure you wait until the preferences badge notification indicates an update is available,
  2. open app store search for macos big sur,
  3. click get, and it will send you to the software update asking for confirmation that you want to upgrade.
  4. If it fails reboot and try again

this worked like a charm for me.
