Messenger on iwatch series 3

I bought a iPhone SE2020 and paired it with my iwatch series 3 but I am not getting any notification from Facebook messenger even though everything is turned on. The app is on the watch and is there but when anyone messages me it should buzz and pop up on the watch but it isn’t. Ever since I have updated the phone to 14 I’m having trouble with some apps, fitness wasn’t showing up on my phone but it was on my watch so I unpaired and then re-paired, seems to be ok now. Any help appreciated.
