Change icons in Mac OS?

I’ve been on Big Sur for a while now (I was on the beta) and there was one icon that I absolutely HATE. it’s the Apple TV icon. I have no idea why it just looks green to me and I made a replacement that looks like Big Sur but isn’t “green”. I looked at about a hundred online tutorials and nothing worked. I disables csruitl with isn’t the best idea but it’s what a tutorial said to do. It didn’t work can anyone help? I’m fine with all the icons but this one and it keeps saying you don’t have the necessary permissions or whatever. It’s a simple and quite dumb thing to ask but it bugs me so much for no reason. How do I change system app icons? Thanks!

I had actually posted a drive link that I uploaded from my mac so you could download the icons for the Apple TV app, but it turns out that the post got pulled down because it 'supposedly' didn't directly answer your question.

Anyway, you can re download Catalina and install it in a VM or external drive, and then copy the app icons from it. Or you could borrow another's mac running Catalina.

  1. Disable SIP
  2. Go to /Applications/TV.app/Contents/Resources
  3. Delete or rename the existing AppIcon.icns file
  4. Replace with the AppIcon.icns file from Catalina
  5. Keep a backup of the .icns file cause if you update to another version of Big Sur it might be replaced.

Hope this helps!

Hello Apple_Collector44,

Could you take a screenshot? Thats kinda weird and hopefully it gets fixed. I'm on Catalina right now and not sure exactly what you are seeing.

If nothing works out, you probably gotta wait for a few weeks/months - Big Sur was just released officially yesterday and it takes time for issues to be recognized and tutorials and tips to me made to fix them.

Hope your problem gets resolved soon.

Cheers, Jack

That site is full of very useful information and instructions. I had read that exact same article you linked, and was prepared to refer to it in a reply to Apple_Collector44, but I was too slow on the uptake. I tend to read through the replies before making one, just in such cases as this. :-)

I had tried to make a post, yesterday, with some referrals to that site, but was unsuccessful in my attempt. It had been on another thread, though, but still in regards to Big Sur.
