Big Sur Update failed Storage system verify or repair failed -69716

Tried that, no luck. Spent days on to Apple support who had no answers. Went through every option bar erase. Every installation attempt (Big Sur, reinstall Catalina) failed, so worried that an erase and install might leave me with a brick, and I rely on this machine for work. Two year old machine perpetually stuck on Catalina with zero report. HD had no issues before the attempted Big Sur installation

Seriously? That would be ~200 hours of mind numbing, down time for me that I can't afford. And that probably will not solve the problem.

Same issue. Big Sur, Big disappointment. No Apple solutions. I do not believe there are so many HD with problems. That would be another big disappointment. Any solutions yet. It's been quite a while.

How To Reinstall the macOS Anew:

1. Create a Time Machine Back (TMB) up your hard drive
2. Format the hard drive
3. Perform a clean install
4. Migrate items from TMB of step one
5. Get licenses reactivated from Developer

I’m getting the same message on my iMac “27 inch I think it is 5K. ( I can’t remember what year that was released). Is there anyway I can get it working again? Is there any way at all to boot back to the old operating system?
