Here's a picture I took with flare. I could easily see the flare on my iPhone 12 Pro Max screen before I took the photo, which you could have seen if you were holding my phone as well:
Is my phone defective? No, of course not.
Without moving my position at all, I moved the angle of the camera relative to the scene and took this photo seconds later. Notice anything different? The flares are gone.
Everyone wants to take phone from the pocket and make a good picture or video and we know how to press red button or shutter:))) , and create some superb pictures also , but this situation is really annoying everyone knows that but no one talks about this even Hi tech YouTubers !!!!! iPhone 12 pro max is a Killer phone , but this ......ahhh

I have nothing to do with Apple Marketing. I don't work for Apple at all. So, I'm NOT contributing to anyone's marketing strategy.
But yes, if you don't angle the camera appropriately to the scene, you may get flares you don't want. And if you change the angle, you can eliminate the flares. So you tell me who is at fault? Is Apple holding the phone and taking the photo for you? You're taking the photo. Take some responsibility for the photos you take. And do a better job of recognizing situations which cause flare and how to eliminate them. That's all on you.
AND if you can't avoid a situations which causes flares, edit them out with tools which have been suggested multiple times in this thread.
As strange as it sounds, it is true.
Cheap plastic lenses as used on older phone cameras are poor enough that they do not have internal reflections of any type and resolution is low enough that any reflections "blur" out.
With a much higher resolution and better lenses, reflections become more common and are more visible.
I personally have posted photos from more or less every other phone on the market showing “multiple dot” flares, and it all depends upon the source of the reflection.
Point sources lead to “dots,” multiple sources multiple dots, and large bright objects ghost images.
Correct - better glass and a better sensor lead to sharper, more vivid capture of both desired content and undesired artifacts.
Think if it as a sharper lens would yield improved resolution of both things in the frame you wanted to capture as well as things in the frame you did not.
The bottom line is it's normal, and it's not going away unless physics changes.
Nice of you to throw the iPhone 13 in there as we haven't even had any posts complaining of flare on the new devices yet.
Not defective - completely normal for all high end smart phone cameras.

Yes, and with slightly different composition and from a slightly different angle you could have taken a clear photo with your iPhone as well.
Thanks William, the best way to reduce it as far as I test it is to try to do vertical photo with flare effect at top/bottom and after it cut it in edit menu.
Those are all normal lens flare reflections for the 12 Pro Max and other premium smartphone cameras.
It's not a denial, it's recognition of what is possible in current optical design for lenses that small and for which high light transmission is desired.
Caused by a flat outer camera lens that reflects light and a powerful round inner lens that captures the slightest bit of light
That’s one way, there are a variety.
If it’s off to the side the old “hand as lens hood” trick often works, too.
