iMovie video events and files

How do I backup video files from iMovie so events can be deleted to free up storage space?

Ian's advice is the way to do it. Except, after sharing out the movie just delete the project, because if you delete the library you will be deleting all media and all projects contained in it. So don't do it unless you want that result. You can also delete the event, but events can contain media that is used by several projects. So if you delete the event you would be deleting the media in all projects that are using it.

The way to handle space problems is to purchase an external drive formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and store your iMovie library on it. Then you don't need to worry about space. All the media and projects will be stored on the external drive.
