No iPhone Notifications through Bluetooth Speaker

For quite some time now, I haven’t been unable to hear any notifications sounds, keyboard clicks, etc. through my JBL Bluetooth speaker(s). I say speaker(s) because I have connected to multiple Bluetooth speakers and same thing happens. The notifications are somewhat muted and can barely hear them through the phone itself as the speaker is playing music. Have done a factory reset on both phone and speakers but still no luck. Was having this issue with my iPhone XS after updating to iOS 13. Now using the iPhone 12 and still having the same issue. Is it some setting? I restored everything from my XS to my 12 via iCloud. Odd thing is, the notifications come through fine when connected to Bluetooth in my car. This is incredibly frustrating as I miss multiple important texts and have to keep my phone on my hip constantly.
